Candidate Profile (and supporting information)

WORKING HORSES IN WOODLANDS. CANDIDATE PROFILE

An introductory course for handlers who, preferably, have some experience handling horses and wish to attain skills relevant to the uses of horses in woodlands.

This course will include working in woodland. It is physical in nature and will include handling and lifting of produce. A degree of physical fitness and mobility is required. The course will include working closely with horses. There will be a need to wear PPE and use hand tools.

Vaccination against Tetanus is recommended. If you use inhalers or may need an adrenalin injection or have any other medical needs, ensure that you bring the correct and sufficient medication with you.

PPE (PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT)

This equipment is the minimum safety/PPE needed.

*Forestry safety helmet (ear muffs and visor optional)
Work gloves
*Hi -vis jacket or vest
Comfortable safety boots with good grip and ankle support.
*Forestry tool belt with tools in holsters: timber tongs and/or pulp hook.

* I have forestry tool belts with timber tongs and holsters, hi-vis vests and helmets to borrow for the duration of the course.

Please ensure you supply the boots, gloves and, if you can, a belt. If you already have the other items, please bring your own.

ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT


Suitable warm and waterproof outdoor clothing
Lunch

Please note: we will be out of doors with minimal facilities and shelter during the course
